It’s likely that you’re here looking for information about how to fly out of Richmond to Vegas because, well, that’s where we live and I haven’t given this site out to anyone, so who knows how anyone else would land here. Let’s get down to it.
The last few visits, we’ve flown Breeze. They fly out of Richmond nonstop (which is an absolute delight) but in order to accomplish this, they only fly on certain days of the week.
Our next trip as I write this will be Saturday to Wednesday. You could flip this and do Wednesday to Saturday, which I actually recommend because on Saturdays, Vegas is a madhouse. But it’s a little nuts on Fridays, too. At any rate, of course you could always plan around an event. Like a hockey game or a football game, or just being there on a Sunday to watch the games, but you have to keep in mind the time difference. We’re a little blessed living on the east coast where our games start at 1pm, but on the west coast, the first games start at 10am. It’s a little bit of a culture shock grabbing beers that early and watching the games. But man, the options of sportsbooks you have to actually watch the games in are incredible. It is a little bit of money to get a seat in the sportsbooks, and I have yet to do it myself, but I imagine it’s quite the experience, if that’s what you’re into. You can always just watch in a sports bar, or even the poker rooms will have tvs where you can watch.
Well, that was quite a tangent. Listen, if you don’t have any loyalty to any airline, give Breeze a try. We love the nonstop aspect, and on this trip, we’re giving it a shot to only take one personal item. Breeze allows for your personal item to be 17”x13”x8” so I found this backpack on Amazon and bought it and we’ll see how much stuff I can cram into it. The last few trips we’ve taken our Porter huge ass luggage, which we actually get tons of compliments on. I bought packing cubes, which were nice to keep everything separated. I think I’m going to cram stuff into those cubes and put them into the backpack to conserve space. (Those links are PAID LINKS to Amazon.com)
Here’s a page I put together to give you all the airlines flying out of Richmond to Las Vegas and their baggage sizes, just for reference. 😊
Even the “nice” grade of seats on Breeze have charging ports for your phone, so that’s good. It’s a long flight, so make sure you pack a charger and download a couple movies or some tv shows to a tablet; enough for there and back. I have a tablet just for movies on the plane. Pro tip, get an anti-glare screen protector. (That’s a paid link, too!) Of course the flight we took the first time I got that anti-glare cover I accidentally dumped a soda all over myself and all over the tablet. So that was fun. Do not recommend, though.
Another interesting thing I discovered. Not all planes are created equal. When you’re making your reservation, check out what plane model you’re going to be flying on. Some are big, some are small, and it’s not just about how many seats are on the plane, different models have different numbers of toilets, might not have charging, might have particular jacks for charging, so you have to ensure that you’re bringing compatible chargers/cables. Some are USB, some are regular electrical outlets. A little bit of planning and research on this front can save a lot of headache on travel day.
Speaking of travel day, please be sure to arrive at the airport with enough time to check your bag if you’re checking a bag! I flew to Denver with a couple of girlfriends and we were LATE and they would NOT let us check our bags. One of us didn’t have a checked bag, so we sent her along by herself while my other friend and I scrambled to get a refund on the other tickets and then booked a flight an hour later on another airline. Thank goodness for booking directly through the airline and not third party. I think if we had gone through Travelocity or Expedia or something we would have totally lost all that ticket money. Did I have insurance on those tickets? Maybe that was it, but for real, we were lucky we got our money back. When you hear people say to give yourself an hour ahead of boarding to get to the airport, this is why!!!
